Bulange Mengo, a key Ugandan landmark, will undergo refurbishment thanks to a UGX 50 million donation from Plascon to the Buganda Kingdom.
KAMPALA, Uganda — Kansai Plascon Uganda, a paint manufacturer, has donated 50 million shillings ($13,300) in paint and supplies for the refurbishment of Bulange Mengo, the Buganda Kingdom’s central administrative and cultural headquarters. The contribution marks a continuation of a seven-year partnership between the company and the kingdom.
The donation ceremony took place Wednesday. Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda, praised the company’s commitment.
“Companies like Plascon are key to the future of our nation,” Mayiga said. “When responsible businesses like Plascon thrive, they create employment, expand opportunity, and contribute significantly to our economy.”
Santosh Gumte, Plascon’s managing director, stated the donation extends beyond financial value.
“We view this not merely as a donation, but as a meaningful contribution to safeguarding our shared heritage,” Gumte said. “When we help preserve landmarks like Bulange, we’re helping future generations to connect with their identity.”
In addition to materials, Plascon is providing a professional painting team for the project.
The company’s involvement with the Buganda Kingdom includes past refurbishments of Twekobe and Butikkiro, as well as sponsorships of initiatives like the Masaza Cup, a popular football tournament.
