Centenary Group's state-of-the-art Tier 3 Green Data Centre in Uganda nears completion, set to boost digital transformation and economic growth in East Africa

A state-of-the-art Tier 3 Green Data Centre in Masaka, Uganda, is on track to commence operations in the third quarter of 2025.

The project, led by Centenary Group’s technology arm, Centenary Technology Services, marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s digital transformation journey.

During a site inspection, Centenary Group Chairman, Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu, expressed his optimism about the project’s progress. “This data centre embodies our commitment to equitable social and economic transformation for all Ugandans,” he said.

The facility, designed to meet international environmental standards, aligns with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap. It will support key objectives, including enhanced digital infrastructure, data sovereignty, and integrated digital services.

Centenary Group has prioritized local content in the construction phase, with several Masaka-based enterprises serving as key suppliers.

The data centre’s design incorporates robust security measures, including biometric access controls, 24/7 surveillance systems, and environmental monitoring systems.

The facility will provide telecommunications companies with a reliable Internet Point of Presence and support critical national infrastructure projects.

Peter Kahiigi, Chief Technology Officer at Cente-Tech, explained that the project’s technical implementation is advancing rapidly. “Civil works are nearing completion, and we’re preparing to transition into the compute infrastructure phase,” he said.

The data centre project will enhance the Group’s capability to deliver advanced digital services while providing a robust platform for businesses across the region.

The facility’s green design includes energy-efficient cooling systems, solar power integration, and sustainable water management practices. It will play a crucial role in supporting Uganda’s growing digital economy and enable businesses to leverage emerging technologies while maintaining data sovereignty and security.
