Scammers are using the East African Development Bank's name to dupe victims with fake business contracts and job offers, the bank warns in a public notice.
Kampala, Uganda — The East African Development Bank (EADB) has sounded the alarm on a social media scam that is duping unsuspecting individuals with promises of business contracts and employment opportunities.
In a public notice issued today, the EADB warned that scammers are using social media and websites to solicit applications for fake business contracts and employment opportunities, requiring applicants to pay a fee. The bank emphasized that it has not established any such programs and is not soliciting applications or receiving payments.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to note that any communication or correspondence through social media or other media offering business contracts, scholarships, interviews or employment, and requesting payment on behalf of the Bank, is fraudulent and does not originate from EADB,” the bank warned.
The EADB further advised individuals to disregard such solicitations and report them to the nearest law enforcement agency. “Available opportunities are listed on the Bank’s website,” the bank added.
The bank has since reminded all users to be cautious when responding to unsolicited offers on social media and to verify the authenticity of such offers before taking any action.
