20 senior leaders graduate from CEO Apprenticeship Program, equipped to drive innovation and sustainable growth in Uganda's business landscape

KAMPALA, Uganda — Ugandan CEOs have been challenged to adopt a legacy leadership mindset, prioritizing lasting impact and sustainable growth in their organizations.

The call was made during the graduation ceremony of the 12th CEO Apprenticeship Program (CAP), where 20 senior leaders were equipped with the tools and skills necessary to drive innovation and transformative change.

Charles Mudiwa, Managing Director of DFCU Bank, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of legacy leadership. “The thing about being a leader is how you work with the people around you, which is the legacy you create daily and the footprint that you will leave behind,” Mudiwa said.

Mudiwa encouraged the graduating CEOs to prioritize building a lasting legacy, rather than focusing solely on short-term gains. “As leaders, we must recognize that our actions have a lasting impact on our organizations, our communities, and our country as a whole,” he said.

The CEO Apprenticeship Program is a 12-month leadership development initiative that equips CEOs and high-ranking executives with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive sustainable growth and innovation.

Stephen Mukasa, Managing Director of CEO Summit Uganda, said the program is designed to help CEOs develop a legacy leadership mindset. “Our goal is to equip CEOs with the tools and skills necessary to build a lasting legacy, one that will continue to inspire and motivate future generations of leaders,” Mukasa said.

The graduating CEOs represented a range of industries, including finance, healthcare, and technology. They underwent intensive training and mentorship, including industry visits to over 40 companies in Nairobi and Cape Town, South Africa.

John Kasangaki, head of Human Resource at Uganda Airlines and CAP President of the 2024 cohort, praised the program, saying it had a profound impact on his leadership style. “The CEO Apprenticeship Program has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive innovation and sustainable growth in my organization,” Kasangaki said.

The CEO Apprenticeship Program is now accepting applications for its 2025 cohort.
