KAMPALA, UGANDA- Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, showcasing significant strides in diversity, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

The report, themed “Championing Inclusion and Diversity,” highlights UBL’s commitment to promoting a culture of inclusivity, with over 60% of its top leadership positions held by women. Additionally, women comprise over 30% of the company’s total staff.

“We embrace diversity and recognize its power in driving innovation,” said Andrew Kilonzo, UBL’s Managing Director. “Our inclusive workplace fosters creativity and problem-solving, ultimately strengthening our operations.”

UBL’s sustainability initiatives are anchored on three key pillars: promoting positive drinking, championing inclusion and diversity, and pioneering grain-to-glass sustainability.

Under its Learning for Life program, UBL has trained over 450 women and youths to gain skills to work in the Hospitality Sector, elevating industry standards. The company has also made significant strides in responsible drinking campaigns through its Tokisusa Campaign, promoting public health and safety through extensive partnerships with local media.

Environmentally, UBL has achieved notable milestones, including halving water usage in beer production, constructing boreholes and sanitation facilities across Uganda, and launching a biomass facility that has reduced emissions by over 90%.

Betty Amongi, Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, praised UBL’s efforts. “UBL’s efforts in promoting inclusion and diversity are truly commendable. As Uganda continues its journey towards sustainable development, it is companies like UBL that are setting the benchmark for responsible business practices. Their focus on empowering communities, particularly women, while advancing environmental sustainability, is a blueprint for the private sector’s role in driving Uganda’s progress.”
