Post Bank Uganda introduces Wendi mobile wallet, enhancing financial inclusion, digital literacy, and economic growth for SACCOs and VSLAs in Uganda
Kampala, Uganda – Post Bank Uganda has announced plans to link over 7,500 Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to its groundbreaking Wendi mobile financial platform.
The initiative aims to extend financial services to thousands of Ugandans, particularly in rural areas, promoting economic empowerment and financial literacy.
“Wendi will revolutionize how SACCOs and VSLAs operate, enhancing financial management and accessibility,” said Patrick Okwi Osakan, Post Bank’s Regional Distribution Head for the Northern and West Nile regions. “With Wendi, we are empowering individuals and groups, particularly those underserved by traditional banks, to access secure savings accounts, earn 10% annual interest on daily savings, and complete various financial transactions with ease.”
Representing the Chief Guest, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nebbi District, Assistant RDC Owachgiu Donald commended PostBank Uganda for its foresight leadership in introducing the Wendi mobile wallet. “I call upon the people of Nebbi and neighboring areas to take advantage of platforms like Wendi by PostBank, enabling everyone to participate in the progress of the nation.”
Jenaro Onegi, CEO of West Nile Private Sector Development Promotion Centre Limited (WENIPS), emphasized the significance of this partnership. “I am delighted to announce our collaboration with PostBank, using their Wendi mobile wallet to digitize our savings groups. This strategic partnership aligns with Uganda’s National Economic Transformation Agenda.”
The platform allows users to access financial services without traditional bank accounts, leveraging mobile technology to bridge the financial divide. This partnership aligns with Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP III), emphasizing financial inclusion and digital financial literacy.
West Nile region, recently connected to the national electricity grid, is poised to benefit significantly from this initiative.
“Digitizing SACCOs and VSLAs will transform Uganda’s financial landscape, fostering economic growth and prosperity,” added Onegi.
Post Bank Uganda’s commitment to financial inclusion is underscored by its extensive network of 58 branches and over 3,000 agents. Wendi mobile wallet has already onboarded over 1.3 million subscribers and partners with over 4,000 agents countrywide
