BUSHENYI, UGANDA – Leaders from various Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) in Western Uganda have praised Stanbic Bank for its commitment to empowering and skilling SACCO members.
Over 100 SACCO leaders from the West Ankole Region gathered at Tuzza Hotel in Bushenyi for a financial literacy training organized by Stanbic Bank’s Financial Fitness Academy. The event aimed to enhance SACCO management and financial literacy.
Turyamureeba Paul Kahigi, Chairperson of Kyamuhunga People’s SACCO, expressed gratitude for the initiative, citing significant impact on their operations. “This training has opened our eyes to new possibilities. We’re excited to implement what we’ve learned and strive for excellence.”
Kahigi praised Stanbic Bank’s efficient loan processing, citing a significant increase in their borrowing capacity from UGX 500 million to UGX 3.6 billion.
Francis Karuhanga, Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited, emphasized the bank’s purpose-driven approach, aligning with Uganda’s national development plan for financial inclusion. “SACCOs are a driving pillar of economic transformation, linking banks to the unbankable Ugandan community.”
Bushenyi District Chairperson Jafari Basajabalaba commended Stanbic Bank for its commitment to empowering the community through education.
Stanbic Bank’s Head of SACCOs, James Junguru, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to training cooperative members, citing UGX 101 billion disbursed to SACCOs last year.
The training covered budgeting, savings strategies, investment opportunities, and effective loan management. Stanbic Bank’s Financial Fitness Academy plans to traverse the country, empowering SACCO leaders nationwide.
