The East African Community (EAC) has announced that Uganda will host the 11th East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) on September 11-12 in Kampala. The event, themed “Building our Multistakeholder Digital Future for East Africa,” aims to address key issues in internet development and governance in the region.
The EAC and the Internet Society’s Ugandan chapter are co-organizing the forum, which will bring together stakeholders from the information and communication technology industry, government, media, private sector, civil society, and academia. The event seeks to promote a multistakeholder approach to shape the digital integration agenda for East Africa.
Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, the EAC’s Deputy Secretary General, emphasized the importance of effective internet governance in fostering innovation, ensuring security, and promoting inclusivity in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. The EAIGF has been a crucial platform for dialogue on internet governance issues in East Africa since its inception in 2008. The event is part of the global UN Internet Governance Forum, which aims to ensure the sustainability, robustness, security, stability, and development of the internet.
