DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA – The 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum kicked off on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a focus on enhancing the win-win bilateral partnership between the two nations.

John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/Regional Affairs, delivered a keynote address on behalf of the Government of Uganda, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Uganda-Tanzania partnership.

He highlighted the strong bilateral relations and the commitment to further strengthen their partnership, promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment.

The forum brought together business leaders, investors, and government officials from both countries to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership. The theme of this year’s forum, “Enhancing our win-win bilateral partnership,” reflected the already concluded and ongoing partnerships between the two countries, including the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline.

Mulimba highlighted the immense business opportunities arising from the pipeline project, which is expected to generate $20 billion in revenue for Uganda and Tanzania, create over 10,000 jobs, and provide opportunities for the private sector in telecommunications, transport, finance, and other service sectors.

The forum aimed to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between Uganda and Tanzania, mobilize the Diaspora for development, and promote trade in locally produced products.

It also provided a platform for business-to-business and government-to-business interaction, creating further opportunities for growth and development in both countries.

The governments of Uganda and Tanzania remain committed to creating an enabling environment that will facilitate businesses to flourish in accordance with their bilateral and EAC Protocols and agreements.

The 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum provided a unique opportunity for meaningful discussions, exchange of ideas, and forging new partnerships that will drive the countries towards sustainable growth and development.

The forum was a significant step forward in strengthening the business ties between Uganda and Tanzania, and it is expected to lead to increased trade and investment between the two nations. With the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline and other joint projects, the future of Uganda-Tanzania relations looks promising, and the business community is optimistic about the potential for growth and development in the region.
