The executive director NITA Uganda Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, said the Tier-3 data center will house all government ICT applications, thereby saving taxpayers money and avoiding duplication and wastage of resources.
The National Information and Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) has commissioned another internet connectivity facility in Mbale district.
The facility seeks to improve efficiency in service delivery in key sectors including education and health among others.
Caroline Akello, the NITA legal officer says the facility shall also connect all government agencies in Bugisu Sub-region.
Miriam Mukyahe, the Mbale district woman MP said the facility wil ease the operations within various sectors of government including schools.
“Recently, when children were registering for UNEB, most of the schools had a challenge, we have so many schools where children hear of a computer but have never seen it and yet we are in a digital world,” she added.
Moses Otekere, an IT officer at Mbale School of hygiene applauded government for setting up such facility in the sub region because it will simplify their work.
“Right now we can afford to do online registration with the Uganda Allied Health Examination Board without any delay because of the good internet connection,” he said.
Last week, NITA launched free wireless internet in Soroti City, under Regional Communication Infrastructure Program [RCIP] funded by World Bank.
The data center branch was on Tuesday launched by the Minister of State for Works Musa Francis Ecweru, on behalf of Vice President Jessica Alupo Epel.

“Soroti City and Soroti district now have the capacity to host all government application and data locally and centrally to improve security, cost, and boost efficiency,” he said.
Dr. Mugasa, added that the free wireless internet connectivity at the main market will unlock opportunities for women who constitute the largest number of occupants.
