Manoj Murali, the Managing Director at Airtel Uganda, said the support seeks to address the inadequacy or limited resources at some of the UMMB health centres facilities across the country.

Airtel Uganda has donated UGX 70 million worth of health equipment to select health centers across the country to boost services in facilities run by the Uganda Muslim Medical Bureau (UMMB).

The assortment includes Mama Kits, Delivery Beds, oxygen cylinders, and Oxygen regulators, among others.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at Old Kampala Hospital as part of the telecom’s celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadhan and giving back to the community under the Airtel Cares Initiative.

“The holy month of Ramadhan is a time for renewal of our faith in the almighty Allah but also a time to extend a helping hand to those most in need.  Our people’s need for quality health care is particularly recognized,” he said.

“As Airtel, it has been our practice to give back to the communities in which we operate and we pledge our continued support of being part of great socio-economic initiatives like what we are witnessing today, and we wish our Muslim brothers a fruitful Ramadhan season,”

Airtel Regional Business Manager of Kampala – Walugembe Herbert said: “Airtel recognises the tremendous effort that you put into this facility to make health care affordable. That is why we want to make a contribution by providing these gifts to you.”

His Emminence – The 1st Deputy Mufti of Uganda – Sheikh Abdallah Semambo, said: “We thank Airtel Uganda for this donation and also for your coming back to our communities who need partners like you to meet their needs.”

“Today we are witnessing this noble act that will go a long way in improving health care services in Uganda. We promise total support to your network,” he added.

Karama Said Ali – Executive Secretary of Uganda Muslim Medical Bureau said: “We welcome you to this function today and for handing over this equipment. This equipment will go to 13 health centres in Uganda.”

“The equipment will improve services in those facilities and will help reduce maternal and infant mortality. We hope that this is not the end of our partnership and that we shall keep working together. We are very grateful to Airtel Uganda,” he added.
