Government on Tuesday afternoon tabled a statement seeking a statutory revision of the Budget of the Parliamentary Commission for FY 2021/22 by Shs1.8b to facilitate burial expenditures for late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, whose body is expected to arrive in Uganda this Friday from Seattle, USA.
Minister of State for Planning Amos Lugoloobi tabled a statement on Statutory revision of the Budget of Vote 104 (Parliamentary Commission) for FY 2021/22.
The Parliamentary Pensions (Amendment) Act requires that 30% of the gross annual salary of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker who dies in office shall be used towards the funeral expenses.
Mr Lugoloobi explained that the money is to cater for all the expenses to be incurred in the week-long burial ceremony that starts on Friday when the body of the deceased arrive in the country on Friday.
There will be different ceremonies at at Oulanyah’s home in Muyenga, then the public viewing ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and the burial in Omoro.
Parliament’s Budget committee was set to debate the budget.
On Friday, April 1, 2022 at 2.00 pm, the body will arrive at Entebbe International Airport aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
Immediately after, the casket will be handed over to A plus Funeral Management.
On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th April at 9.00 am, the body will lie at the home of the Speaker in Muyenga where friends and well-wishers will pay their last respects.
There will be a small service conducted and attended by few people on Sunday.
On Tuesday 5th April 2022 at 9.00 am the body will be moved to the Parliament of Uganda where the Rt. Hon. Speaker will lead the Members of Parliament to pay their final respects.
On Wednesday, 6th April 2022 at 9.00 am, the body will be taken to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds for a State Funeral.
On Friday 8th April 2022 the burial ceremony will start at 9.00am in Omoro. The day will be observed as a Public Holiday as declared by H.E. the President.
