Telecom company Airtel Uganda is in discussions with the different stakeholders about listing on the Uganda Securities Exchange.
Mr David Birungi, the Airtel public relations manager, is quoted by Daily Monitor newspaper as confirming the development.
He, however, does not divulge details, saying that the public will be informed when all is set.
Airtel is expected to sell at least 20 per cent of its shares through an Initial Public Offer.
Listing on the USE is a condition for renewal of licences for foreign owned telecom companies under the National Broadband Policy.
According to UCC, the requirement for listing must be within two years from the date of issuance of the licence undertaken in accordance with the existing listing rules as prescribed by the Uganda Capital Markets Authority.
Airtel renewed its licence in 2020, meaning it is supposed to list on the stock exchange this year.
Airtel in Africa is listed on the stock exchange in Zambia, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Malawi.
This comes after MTN Uganda floated 20 percent of the company shares on the Uganda Securities Exchange.
MTN’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) is priced at Shs200, with 4.47 billion ordinary shares on offer. The IPO period closed on Monday November 22 2021.
