RwandAir has announced a resumption of flights to Entebbe International Airport three months after suspending them due to rising Covid-19 cases.

The management of RwandAir on Thursday, September 9, 2021, said they will resume the flights on September 17.

“We’re thrilled to announce the resumption of our services to Entebbe from 17th September 2021. For booking inquiries, visit our website: http://rwandair.com,” RwandAir announced.

At the time of suspension of flights in June, Uganda was witnessing a surge in COVID-19 infections, with 7-day average of daily new cases climbing from around 100 in late May to near 1,000. At the time, Uganda’s test positivity rate stood at over 17 percent

The cases have since dropped to an average of 100 cases per day and positivity rate at about 3 per cent. However, Ugandan authorities have warned that there is a potential third wave looming.

Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health minister, while addressing the country last month on UBC TV,  said projections done by scientists show that the third wave of the pandemic is likely to peak at 4,000 laboratory-confirmed cases daily.  This is two times higher than what was being recorded during the second wave.

This comes as the country struggles to vaccinate its population.

The government is currently testing all travellers arriving in the country through Entebbe International Airport and other 53 border points.
